Kids Cove at Mackle Park

It's going to be a nice place to play.” - Matthew Land, age 6 Matthew and Benjamin Land know all about Kids’ Cove, because their mom Kim is actively involved with the planning of the new playground at Mackle Park. Kim is volunteering along with many others, helping coordinate child care for those who will be involved in the week-long building of the playground, March 8 – 13, 2005. On Tuesday, January 18 Marc Leathers of Leathers and Associates met with the planning committee at Mackle Park, to discuss details. “Make it shine!” was Marc’s message, and the only way that can be done, he added, is by making Kids’ Cove truly a community effort. Have you filled in a volunteer form yet? They are available at Mackle Park (and also by following the link on this website) and you will be surprised to note, that a wide variety of both skilled and unskilled workers are required – men, women and children too! Needed: “Skilled” – can cut a straight line with a circular saw; familiar with power tools, measuring, cutting. Needed: “Unskilled” – carrying, assembling, sanding, shoveling, carpenter’s helpers. Needed: Food servers. Needed: Childcare assistants. Needed: Helpers – sign-in tables, ‘go-fors’. Needed: what special skills do you have? From Wednesday to Sunday, March 9 – 13, there will be three shifts: 8 a.m. to 12 noon, 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., 5:30 p.m. to closing time. Another way you will be able to contribute to the project, is by purchasing pickets for the fence: for just $20 each, you and members of your family can become part of the park and have your name routed into one of the pickets.
